EU to set projects improving Libyan police against illegal immigration

The European Union’s mission will set projects to improve the performance of the government of the National Accord (GNA)’s Ministry of Interior, European Union Ambassador to Libya Alan Bugeja said Thursday.

During his meeting with Minister of Interior Fathi Pasha, Bugeja welcomed the cooperation with Libya to tackle the security issues, particularly illegal immigration.

The discussion highlighted the security situation on Libya’s southern borders and ways to secure and protect them to ultimately reduce immigrant departure to Europe.

Chairman of the Presidency Council Faiez Sarraj received the credentials of three new ambassadors to Libya in a Thursday ceremony.

The ambassadors are Bugeja, Lars Bernard Mari of the Netherlands, Samba Gani Cornell of Congo.

During the ceremony, Sarraj praised the efforts exerted by the Netherlands, Congo and the European Union to support the government of the National Accord (GNA) and to resolve the Libyan crisis.

He called on the ambassadors to enhance the relations between their respective countries and Libya to achieve common interests.
