LYD 415M allocated for reconstruction of Benghazi

The House of Representatives (HoR) on Thursday announced allocating LYD 415 million for the reconstruction of Libya’s eastern city of Benghazi. The parliamentary committee formed earlier to set a reconstruction plan of the city will supervise the financing of targeted development projects there.

These projects will include different sectors: utilities, sanitation, electricity, education, health, and security. The committee, headed by the governor of the Central Bank of Libya (CBL) in al-Bayda Ali al-Habri and the mayor of Benghazi Abdul Razek al-Nadori, has so far contracted 114 projects with different financing values.

In May, Libya hosted the international conference on the reconstruction of the city of Benghazi, with participation of investors and economic experts from 14 different countries. The conference discussed reconstruction opportunities by improving the infrastructure.

Benghazi, Libya’s second largest city, was severely damaged by more than three years of violent war between the army and terrorist groups, which ended by the army taking over the city and expelling the terrorist groups last year.
