Rebuilding Libyan institutions will limit illegal immigration to Europe: Lavrov

Moscow seeks to help Libya in rebuilding its state institutions and calls on the international community to participate in reforming the North African country without preconditions, the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Friday.

Lavrov added that supporting the Libyan state authorities will limit illegal immigration to Europe.

The Russian minister said that the frequent interventions in the affairs of the North African countries was among the reasons for the strong deterioration of the situation.

He pointed out that the countries of the southern Mediterranean still represent a major source of international tension and serious threats, such as terrorism, illegal immigration, organized crime, and drug trafficking.

In related news, Saif al-Islam, the son of Libya’s late leader Muammar Qaddafi, has called on Russia to support a plan to resolve the Libyan issue.

The former Libyan leader’s son believes that national reconciliation dialogue involving all the warring parties and transparent elections are necessary in order to overcome the crisis.
