8 killed in clashes southwest Khoms

Eight people were killed on Friday as clashes broke out between unknown militants and the Vital Facilities Protection Department in the Amamra area, southwest khoms city about 120km away from Tripoli.

The bodies, five of them belong to the militant group, were transferred to the Khoms General Hospital.

The two sides were trying to impose control on a desalination plant in Khoms, sources told the 218News.

Libya’s Attorney-General has issued earlier an arrest warrant against this armed group for attacking the desalination plant, the sources added.

The country has been divided since 2014 between rival governments and military alliances based in the east and the west, following the 2011 uprising that ended more than four decades of dictatorship under Muammar Gaddafi.
