Interior Ministry to send out patrols along western border

The Ministry of Interior in the Government of National Accord has mandated security directorates located on the Libyan-Tunisian border to send out patrols along the western border.

In a Tuesday statement, the ministry explained that the mission will include the security directorates of Batin Al-Jabal, Nalut, Jumayl, and Rigdalin, and will be conducted in coordination with the border guards and the Petroleum Facilities Guard.

It comes in the framework of the Libyan police’s intensive efforts to secure borders in, the ministry said.

In November, Libyan Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha underscored protecting the Libyan borders against illegal immigration, which “has become a major concern for Libya and the world.”

Libyan security services struggle to train and equip their personnel amid years of turmoil that plagued the country since 2011.
