Libya maintains 104th position on FIFA ranking

The Libyan national football team kept its 104th position in the FIFA World Ranking in the latest FIFA Men’s Rankings for the month of December released on Thursday.

Libya also ranked 13th in Africa and the Arab region.

Belgium led the FIFA rankings followed by the World Cup winner France. Brazil came third, while the World Cup runner-up Croatia was the fourth in a mostly unchanged monthly ranking.

Senegal topped the rankings on the African level while it was 23rd globally. Tunisia ended 2018 as the highest ranking Arab team, the second best African, and the 26th globally in December.

The Libyan Football Federation (LFF) has contracted last month former national midfielder Fawzi Al-Issawi as the new coach of the national team to replace Omar Al-Meryami.

Al-Issawi leads Libya through the 2019 AFCON qualifiers as Libya comes third in Group E with seven points preceded by South Africa and Nigeria, and followed by Seychelles without one point.

Libya triumphed 8-1 against Seychelles on 17 November and will host South Africa next March on the final match of the group stage, needing a win to accompany Nigeria in qualifying from Group E.
