99 illegal Egyptian immigrants expatriated, fishing vessels caught off Sydra

The Anti-Illegal Immigration Agency in libya expatriated 99 illegal Egyptian immigrants in coordination with the Egyptian side on Monday.

A statement issued by the agency said that those immigrants were arrested in the past week. They left the country through the border crossing of Maasid al-Bari with Egypt.

According to the statement, some of those immigrants were defendants in different cases, not to mention entering the Libyan territory illegally.

Earlier on Sunday, the Deputy Minister of Interior for Illegal Immigration Affairs, Mohamed al-Shibani, said that Libya is only a transit country for immigrants.

In July, Shibani said the ministry was developing a plan to combat illegal immigration in Libya.

He explained then that the plan attaches great importance to the Libyan cooperation with the EU countries, especially Italy, pointing out that they will go ahead with all the programs previously established, including the agreements concluded with the countries concerned with the immigration file.

In a different context, the naval forces of  the Libyan National Army has caught on Saturday three Egyptian shipping vessels off the coast of Sydra.

Spokesperson for the naval forces, Ali al-Thabet, said that the vessels have been seized for fishing in the Libyan territorial waters without obtaining official permission.

Al-Thabet pointed out that the total number of sailors who were caught on these vessels was 63 people distributed on ships bearing the names of “Tabarak Al-Ati, Fares, and Albhlwan”.

The vessels were towed to the Benghazi seaport and legal actions will be taken, he added.
