IS hostages of Fuqaha, Tazirbu set free late Monday

The hostages who were abducted by the Islamic State (IS) after attacking al-Fuqaha and Tazirbu towns were set free late Monday by the Libyan National Army (LNA), sources told 218tv.

Khalid ibn al-Walid Battalion and the 10th Brigade cooperated with citizens at farm areas near Ghadwa city, southern Libya, to release the hostages.

The operation was carried out after four hostages had escaped from IS that had kept them in one of the farms.

The four survivors informed the LNA about the place where IS detained them to help release the other hostages.

The total number of Fuqaha hostages was eight, and LNA is currently checking the number of Tazirbu hostages, according to the sources.

Further, a young man from Wadan town at al-Jufra municipality was among the hostages. The sources said his parents had thought that he was killed by the IS.

After being released, the former abductees were sent to Tragan Central Hospital to receive first aid and undergo medical examinations after spending two months in an agricultural area near the town of Ghadwa.

On Oct. 29, Suspected IS militants attacked Fuqaha town in central Libya, killing four people, kidnapping others and torching a police station.

Two weeks after Fuqaha’s attack, IS attacked on Nov. 23 a security directorate in the southeastern Libyan town Tazirbu, killing nine security service members, injuring 10 and kidnapping a number of residents.
