RPG fired at Sirte Municipality’s headquarters

The headquarters of Sirte Municipality was attacked early Wednesday with a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG), leaving no causalities.

The shell only left some damages in the building, the municipality said in a statement.

The statement added that no details have been revealed thus far about the place from which the RPG was fired or the perpetrators.

The attack on Sirte Municipality occurred a few hours after a suicide bomber had blown himself up inside a police station in Ghadwua village, 60 kilometers from the southern city of Sabha. This happened just one day after the Libyan National Army (LNA) freed nearly 20 people who had been kidnapped by militants during attacks in central Libya.

In a brief statement on Tuesday, the LNA-affiliated Khalid bin al-Walid Brigade said the explosion also did not leave any causalities except minor damages in the police station.

According to eyewitnesses, the bomber had been arrested and brought to the police station by the residents of the area.

The statement called on the citizens of neighboring areas to report any suspicious persons or vehicles inside cities or villages, and to avoid crowded areas.
