Italy, Libya study ways to facilitate visa entry for Libyan students

Means to facilitate visa entry for Libyan students and put the Italian-Libyan agreement on education into effect was discussed Wednesday by Libya’s education minister and Italy’s deputy ambassador.

Minister Osman Abdel Jalil met with Deputy Italian Ambassador to Libya Nicola Orlando to discuss cooperation between the two countries in the educational field. As part of initiatives to exchange training programs, Presidency Council Deputy Ahmed Maiteeg signed an agreement with Italy in December 2017 on the Erasmus initiative for student exchange.

The agreement aims to support higher education and training programs to strengthen cooperation and mutual understanding between Italy and the countries of the southern coast of the Mediterranean, including Libya, in various fields.

The Erasmus Mediterranean Program will provide scholarships and exchange programs for university students, researchers and youth.

Alongside Italy, Libya cooperates with the European Union (EU) to improve its vocational education.

Members of the Libyan Ministries of Labour and Education gathered on Jan. 29 and 30, 2018, with the EU Delegation in Libya and the European Training Foundation (ETF) to discuss a new commitment to improve Libya’s vocational education system.

Together with members of municipalities, trade unions and chambers of commerce in Libya, EU-Libya pilot action will be launched to involve Libya in the “Torino Process.”

It is “a structured exercise aiming to help EU neighboring countries take stock of the state of their vocational education systems in order to frame strategies for improvement,” according to ETF.
