March to demand rescue of Tunisian children in Libya

A march is being organized by a Tunisian campaign to urge the government to rescue 93 Tunisian children trapped in Libya and Syria from the Islamic State (IS), according to a Saturday statement.

The Rescue Association of Tunisians Trapped Abroad said in the statement the 93 children are kept in care centers, hospitals and prisons.

The association added that the march will begin from Sidi Bou Said railway station in Tunisia to the presidential headquarters in Carthage.

Meanwhile, Tunisian security source told 218tv on Saturday that the Libyan authorities will release Tunisian women who were arrested during the 2016 Sirte liberation from IS over charges of belonging to the terrorist group.

The Libyan authorities repatriated on Dec. 20 a number of Egyptian children whose families were killed in earlier clashes between the army and IS militants in the city of Sirte, northern Libya.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) announced it facilitated the repatriation of the unaccompanied children to Cairo in coordination with the authorities in Libya and Egypt, and through the support of the Libyan and Egyptian Red Crescent as well as the Malta Red Cross.

These children were among several ones found following the fighting in Sirte, east of Misurata, about two years ago. The Libyan authorities offered the children rehabilitation programs since they were found. They have since been cared for by the Libyan Red Crescent in a facility in Misurata, the ICRC said.
