Security coordination and exchanging intelligence to combat terrorism and extremism was also tackled in the meeting.

Further, the meeting touched on a number of regional issues of mutual interest, especially developments in Libya and the role of the trilateral mechanism of the ministers of foreign affairs of Egypt, Tunisia and Algeria to coordinate their countries’ positions on the Libyan crisis.

Jhinaoui also congratulated Sisi for Egypt’s upcoming chairmanship of the African Union in 2019. Sisi emphasized Egypt’s determination to continue enhancing and promoting joint African action and expressed that Egypt looks forward to increasing coordination with Tunisia on regional and African issues of mutual interest, particularly issues related to development and maintaining the continent’s peace and security.
