Libyan health delegation visits Cairo to enhance bilateral cooperation

Libya’s Acting Minister of Health in the Interim Government, Saad Akoub, met on Wednesday with Egyptian officials in the health sector in Cairo to discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in different health fields.

Akoub and his accompanying delegation sit with the deputy minister of health for international cooperation and the head of the Egyptian ambulance organization to exchange expertise on the development of national health information systems within the health care program.

The visit also included discussing a number of cooperation protocols between the two countries.

The Libyan delegation included the Director-General of the Benghazi Medical Center, Abdel-Karim Al-Qabaily; the Director-General of the Tobruk Medical Center, Faraj Al-Jali; Director of the Thawra Central Hospital, Mohamed Al-Triki; and the Director of Public Relations at the Ministry of Health, Abdullah Al-Brani.

In December 2018, medicine supply has suffered a major setback in Libya due to the persistent political crisis, leading to endemic shortages. Achieving universal health coverage requires access to safe, effective, quality, and affordable essential medicines.
