Southern Tripoli ‘back to normal’ after days of clashes

Work at government sectors and schools in southern Tripoli has been resumed after clashes between rival militias ended, Tarhuna Municipality announced on Monday.

Officials have inspected the damages caused by the war across southern Tripoli, especially that of the power grid in order to maintain it.

Meanwhile, undersecretary of the Ministry of Education Adel Jomaa visited several schools at Qasr Ben Ghashir to ensure that students have returned to schools after the temporary suspension.

To put an end to the clashes, Warfalla tribe and the Social Council of Tarhuna reached on Sunday a cease-fire agreement in southern Tripoli during their meeting.

They agreed to cease fire in southern Libya, prohibit any armed militia from moving from Tarhuna, 65 kilometers to the southeast of the capital, to Tripoli. They also agreed to release detainees arrested during the clashes, and form a committee to resolve the chaos.

The meeting was held upon the call of the Preparatory Committee of the Libyan Tribal Leaders Forum in Bani Walid to Warfalla tribe on Saturday to intervene and resolve the conflict between Tarhuna 7th Brigade and Tripoli Protection Force, both linked to the U.N.-backed Government of National Accord.

The clashes began on 16 January, killing 16 people and injuring 65.
