46 militants from Derna Shura Council surrender to LNA

Battalion 210 in Libyan National Army (LNA) received on Wednesday 46 injured people including militants of Derna Shura Council group, women, and children.

A military source told 218 News that Derna Red Crescent mediated the delivery of the wounded to LNA, adding that they are currently receiving treatment under strict security measures.

LNA forces besieged the old city area of Derna where several miliatns of Derna Shura Council still refuse to surrender.

Red Crescent retrieved 10 unidentified bodies from the old city area on Monday. It said on Facebook that the bodies were handed over to the competent authorities in order to undergo the necessary measures before their burial.

Last May, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, the 75-year-old commander of LNA, announced the launch of a military offensive on the city of Derna. LNA started the operation with conducting airstrikes and shelling the city for some time, and then they launched a ground offensive. The Libyan army began to mobilize more troops around Derna, in preparation for launching a large-scale military operation to free it completely from terrorist groups loyal to al-Qaeda organization and ISIS.

On Monday, six of the most prominent leaders of Derna Shura council, including the group’s spokesperson Mohammed Mansouri, were killed in fire exchange with LNA.
