HoR Speaker condemns Turkish envoy statement on southern operation

Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) Aguila Saleh condemned on Wednesday the statement of Turkish envoy to Libya Emrullah Isler on the military operation carried out in southern Libya since Jan.14.

Saleh described Isler’s remarks as “unacceptable interference in Libyan internal affairs and violation of the sovereignty of Libya.”

On February 19, the Turkish envoy to Libya said that Commander of Libyan National Army (LNA), Khalifa Haftar, exploits the military operation in Libya to take over the country, referring that this attempt is a violation of the political agreement signed in Skhirat Agreement signed in 2015.

“Haftar’s forces had easily eliminated opponents thanks to air support from Egypt and the UAE,” Işler told Anadolu News Agency.

Saleh accused Turkey of undermining the solution of Libyan crisis and supporting the terrorist organizations in Libya.

He pointed out that the shipments of weapons seized by Libyan and Greek authorities recently came from Turkey.

Saleh demanded Turkey to “stand with the Libyan people instead of supporting terrorism and extremism.”
