Petroleum Facilities Guard appoints new leader in south Libya

Commander of the Petroleum Facilities Guard (PFG), Major General Naji Al-Maghrabi, appointed Brigadier General Mohamed Khalifa as the new commander of PFG in the southern region on Saturday.

According to the letter of assignment, the PFG’s new leader in southern Libya was instructed to cooperate with the Karama Operations Room and the General Command of the Libyan National Army (LNA).

Khalifa shall keep the general leadership of the PFG updated about the southern region’s developments, and supervise the implementation of the security plan of Sharara oil field and its employees.

Al-Maghrabi announced last Tuesday that his forces received officially the oil field from the LNA after negotiating with the tribal protesters who forced the field’s shutdown earlier.

In a statement, Al-Maghrabi said that the LNA commander recommended not to obstruct the production of oil from the field, and called on the National Oil Corporation to end the force majeure in Sharara and resume production.
