LFF halts premier league due to AFCON qualifiers in March

The Libyan Premier League will be halted from 13 March due to the national team’s match in the African Cup of Nation (AFCON) qualifiers against South Africa scheduled for 24 March, head of the Libyan Football Federation’s Competitions Committee, Hadi Al-Suwaiti, told 218News on Thursday.

Al-Suwaiti explained that the league will stop temporarily after the ninth matchweek on 12 March to give the players some rest before the national team’s training camp.

Libya’s football federation, forced to move matches to neutral venues due to political unrest, have confirmed they will take South Africa to Sfax, Tunisia.

Libya played their other 2019 AFCON home game in Cairo‚ Egypt‚ beating Seychelles 5-1.

Nigeria has qualified from Group E with 10 points. South Africa has nine, and Libya seven.

Libya needs three points to seal a place at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt that begins in June.
