Presidency Council military official says Tripoli ‘to be destroyed’ upon LNA entrance

Tripoli would be “destroyed” by the clashes between the two opposing military institutions in the east and west if the Libyan National Army (LNA), led by Khalifa Haftar, decided to enter the capital, Major-General Abdulrahman Al-Tawil at the Libyan army, operated under the Presidency Council (PC)’s command, told Sputnik news Sunday.

After the LNA nearly fully liberated the southern region from terrorist and armed groups, demonstrations have been organized in the Tripoli in demand that the eastern army enters Tripoli.

Commenting on the situation in the city, Chairman of the Preparatory Committee of the upcoming National Conference Mohammed Al-Abani told Sputnik news that 80 percent of the western region’s residents support the army and urge it to enter the capital and free it from militias.

Hence, the Preparatory Committee will exert efforts to unify the military institutions to avoid any clashes between the one led by Haftar and the other led by head of the Presidency Council Faiez Sarraj in Tripoli.

In the recent period, LNA spokesperson Ahmed al-Mismari stated that the LNA would next head to the remaining areas in Libya that still host militias.
