Elders of western region’s municipalities call for peaceful power transfer

Elders of municipalities in the western region stressed Sunday the need for a peaceful transfer of power to “preserve the principles of 2011 revolution.”

This statement came after Major-General Abdulrahman Al-Tawil at the Libyan army, operated under the Presidency Council (PC)’s command, told Sputnik news that clashes would erupt in Tripoli if the Libyan National Army (LNA) entered the capital.

After LNA nearly liberated the southern region from terrorist and armed groups, demonstrations have been organized in the capital, calling upon the army to enter Tripoli.

Hence, during their Sunday meeting in Zuwarah, the elders of the western region municipalities declared their full rejection of getting involved in a war and will not allow any party to use their lands for this purpose.

They called on Libyan factions to establish a civil state and unify the military institution.
