The Government of the National Accord (GNA) “fully recognizes” the outcomes of the Abu Dhabi meeting, which brought together GNA head, Faiez Al-Sarraj and Commander of the Libyan National Army Khalifa Haftar, Interior Minister of the GNA Fathy Bashaga said.
During a meeting with ambassadors of the European Union, Bashaga said Libyans hope to resolve the political crisis and unify institutions and the government.
In the mid-February meeting of Abu Dhabi, the two rivals Haftar and Sarraj, agreed on the need to end the transitional phase and hold a presidential election to preserve Libya’s stability.
They also agreed to a Paris-brokered deal in May 2018 to hold elections by the end of 2019.
