Security tension in Sirte after LNA advances to Abu Hadi

Sirte Protection and Security Force is on alert after the Libyan National Army (LNA) advanced to Abu Hadi village on the outskirts of Sirte.

Some footage were released online showing LNA fighters and vehicles marching towards central Libya.

Sirte has been witnessing security tension since the LNA announced its advancement.

However, the Sirte Protection and Security Force issued a statement denying the advance of LNA forces towards the city, positing videos of its forces in Abu Hadi.

It comes after Sirte force warned LNA of advancing to west Libya, especially Tripoli, which Khalfa Haftar, commander of LNA, has been threatening to seize for so long.

Libya has remained dogged by turmoil since 2011 when an uprising led to the ouster of longstanding ruler Muammar Gaddafi after four decades in power.

Since then, Libya’s stark political divisions have yielded two rival seats of power, one in Tobruk (to which Haftar is affiliated) and another in Tripoli, with a host of heavily-armed militia groups.
