Sexual harassment draws Int’l attention amid gov. silence

Amid governmental silence, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has condemned the frequent sexual harassment ancients of bank staff and female clients in Libya’s capital, Tripoli.

“UNSMIL condemns harassment of bank staff and female clients in Siyahiya, Tripoli and is working to support political and police authorities to end this criminal behavior.” UNSMIL stated on twitter, Tuesday.

However, this condemnation placed Libya’s Government of National Accord (GNA) in the hot water, especially, that none of the government’s officials commented on the incident.

On March 10, Aman Bank in Tripoli announced on facebook moving its branch to another location as a result of the frequent sexual harassment incidents that have been taking place during the past period for number of the female staff and clients. Later on March 12, UNSMIL posted the condemnation on its twitter account.

Libyan media outlets criticized GNA for its silence.
