Jadu Hospital suffers neglect, deteriorating medical services

Although the Jadu Hospital in Nafusa Mountains receives more than 1,000 cases daily, the budget allocated to the hospital has not been disbursed thus far, resulting in poor hospital services.

The hospital also lacks medical supplies and equipment supposed to be provided by the Ministry of Health. This forced the hospital’s administration to impose additional fees on its medical services so that it can secure the needed supplies and salaries.

The Jadu Hospital is one of the most important hospitals in the western Tripolitania region, northwest Libya.

The hospital was established at the beginning of the 1970s and in 2017, the Government of National Accord (GNA) turned it into a general hospital with 200 beds.

Healthcare and medical treatment are difficult to get in Libya due to the collapse of the health system and an economic crisis that makes sending patients abroad nowhere near affordable.

During the war in Libya, medical facilities have been subjected to shelling and bombing, attacks, intimidation of staff, looting of medicines, equipment and ambulances, and clashes inside hospitals by armed groups.
