Flights to be resumed to southern region’s oil fields

The Libyan National Army (LNA) agreed Sunday to allow flights to oil fields in the southern region, including al-Feel and al-Sharara oil field, according to Commander of the Petroleum Facilities Guard (PFG), Major General Naji Al-Maghrabi.

The flights to the southern region have been suspended due to military operations carried out since December, during which the LNA cleared oil fields from armed groups.

The LNA’s decision to suspend flights has increased tensions between LNA commander Khalifa Haftar and head of the Government of National Accord Faiez Sarraj.

On 14 February, the Presidency Council sent a civilian plane to el-Feel oil field in the southern region although the LNA had banned all flights in the area without its authorization.

A jet from Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar’s forces intercepted the plane as part of its push to control the oil-rich south and consolidate its military operation in the south.
