Election committee declares spending limit for municipal poll advertising

Libya’s Central Committee for Municipal Council Elections determined on 14 March the spending limit of election advertising in nine municipalities.

The spending limit differs according to the municipality and whether the candidates are individuals or lists. AI-Hawamid has the lowest spending limit allowed for individual candidates at LYD 3,300 ($2,370) and LYD 6,500 ($4,670) for electoral lists. Batin Al-Jabal has the highest limit at LYD 12,500 ($8,990) for individual candidates and LYD 25,000 ($17,985) for electoral lists.

The election campaigns began on 15 March and will last until 28 March and the electoral silence day will be on 29 March.

Last week, the head of the Central Committee for Municipal Council Elections, Salim bin Tahia, reaffirmed the committee’s readiness for the electoral process for the first and second groups by the end of March.

This came during a meeting with the Presidency Council’s member, Ahmed Maiteeq, who conducted an inspection visit to follow up the work of the committee and the difficulties encountered.

Bin Tahia emphasized that the central electoral system is ready to function in all municipalities, pointing out to the need for training the committee’s employees on organizing poll stations.
