Derna launches anti-malnutrition campaign in schools

The Medical Service Office in Derna formed a medical team on Friday comprising a number of nutritionists to launch a campaign to monitor malnutrition diseases among students in the city.

The medical campaign told 218NEWS that they conducted a tour at a number of schools to observe symptoms of diabetes, anemia, and vitamin D deficiency, with the aim to create a database of the children suffering from these diseases in the city and to treat them.

The campaign began a health awareness phase in the schools, setting up a period of six months to complete its tasks and integrated database.

Last month, Mohamed al-Azumi, the Director of the Projects Department of Libya’s Tripoli-based Ministry of Health, revealed that a budget of LYD 111 million ($80 million) was allocated for 20 different development and maintenance projects.

These projects were now being implemented. Other projects had also begun in 2018.

He pointed out that no budget has been allocated to the health sector for development and maintenance since 2014, which led to dilapidated hospital systems, the collapse of infrastructure and the dilapidated sections to the extent that they were not ready to receive patients.
