GNA to establish emergency security room in Tripoli

Libya will establish a temporary emergency security room in Tripoli, according to the Ministry of Interior in the Government of National Accord (GNA).

In a Saturday statement, the ministry said the new security room aims to follow up security plans, receive information, apply urgent security measures in case of emergency or sudden incidents, and implement security programs and policies.

It will also coordinate with other security departments to combat crime and sabotage, as well as follow up the implementation of the security plans of the GNA.

Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha said the step comes within the framework of maintaining security of Libya.

On Saturday, the ministry instructed security departments to temporarily suspend licensing demonstrations or sit-ins.

Libya has struggled with partisan demonstrations and worker protests making financial demand since 2011, as some of the protests turned violent.
