UN Envoy to Libya warns of fake lists of attendees to National Forum

Head of the UN Mission Support in Libya (UNSMIL) Ghassan Salamé has warned of the circulation of ‘fake lists of attendees’ to Libyan National Conference anticipated on April 14 in Ghadames city.

On his Tweeter account, Salamé affirmed that he noticed up to seven fake lists on Social media sites. He said that these attempts to spread rumors and fake news only aims to destabilize the country.

Salamé advised Libyan to ignore these lists affirming that he has the only ‘correct one’, and no body else have it.

“At least seven different fake lists are being circulated now as official, final lists of participants in the National Conference. There is only one correct list, and i have it. Other than that, I advise Libyans to ignore it.” Salame wrote on twitter, Tuesday.

On March 20, Envoy of UN Mission Support in Libya (UNSMIL) Ghassan Salame announced before the Security Council that the National Forum is set to be held 14-16 April in Libya in a critical opportunity to end the prolonged transitional period since 2011.

Ahead of the National Conference, we are working with many parties to ensure as broad a buy-in as possible to the political process. What is clear is that the Libyan people fervently desire that their institutions be united as soon as possible,” Salame said

During the forum, the UNSMIL will focus on finalising the draft constitution, which paves the way for the election, forming a national unified government to supervise the referendum and elections, and reshuffling the Presidency Council to be led by a president and two deputies.
