KSA voices support to UN-backed Libyan National Forum

Saudi Arabia stressed its support for the United Nations’ diplomatic efforts in Libya, especially with regard to holding the long-anticipated National Forum scheduled for mid-April in the city of Ghadames.

Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Ghassan Salame, and Saudi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Assaf met in Tunis on Friday, discussing the latest developments in the political process in Libya.

The meeting follows the recent meeting between Libyan National Army Commander Khalifa Hafter and Saudi King Salman bin Abdul Aziz in Riyadh.

The international community is waiting for positive results to resolve the internal crisis of Libya after it holds the National Forum.

In February, Salame hosted a meeting between head of the Presidency Council Faiez al-Sarraj, and Haftar in the UAE capital Abu Dhabi, where they agreed on the need to end the transitional stage in Libya through holding general elections. They also agreed on ways to maintain stability in the country and unify its institutions.

The adviser of the Libyan Political Dialogue Committee, Ashraf Al-Sheh, said earlier this month the outcome of the Abu Dhabi meeting between Sarraj and Haftar will be on the agenda of the National Forum that will be held under the auspices of the UN mission in Libya.
