Situation in Libya is improving, continuity is key: UNSMIL

The situation in Libya is improving, but efforts must be exerted to ensure that development in the country will continue, envoy of the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) Ghassan Salame said Friday.

During the preparatory meeting between the Arab foreign ministers ahead of the 30th Arab summit in Tunis, Salama reviewed the latest developments in Libya before the Arab Summit, which brings together representatives of the United Nations, the League of Arab States, the African Union and the European Union.

Discussing political, economic and security challenges facing the Arab region at this critical stage, foreign ministers stressed the need to reach a political solution in Libya, announcing their full rejection to any military solution or the foreign intervention.

Tunisia will host a quadripartite meeting as part of the Arab summit, where leaders and international representatives will discuss implementing a roadmap and organizing free elections in Libya before the end of this year.

The Arab summit spokesperson Mahmoud Khemiri said on Wednesday that the meeting will shed light on the situation in Yemen, Iraq and Somalia, adding that the Libyan file would be strongly present at this summit.

In the Arab Summit, a 40-person Libyan delegation will attend the 30th edition of the Arab Summit March 31 in Tunis, according to 218 News.

The delegation will be led by head of Presidency Council (PC) Faiez al-Sarraj and ministers of the Government of the National Accord (GNA), and no delegation from the eastern interim government will attend the summit, 218 News said.
