UNSMIL unveils National Forum’s slogan, logo

Amid the escalating tension in Tripoli and surrounding areas as the Libyan National Army (LNA) advances towards the capital, the slogan and logo of Libya’s upcoming National Forum was revealed on Wednesday by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL).

The Libyan capital has been controlled by some armed groups allied with the UN-backed Government of National Accord (GNA) since 2014. Meanwhile, the rival government supported by Khalifa Haftar’s LNA has power over the western region and started to expand its control in southern and central Libya since last December.

The urgently needed forum, though it is likely to be delayed under such circumstances, will have a simple logo featuring the map of Libya with its borders colored in red, green, and black, the Libyan flag’s colors.

Under the slogan “We meet for Libya,” the National Forum, scheduled for April 14 in the city of Ghadames, aims to find a political solution to the long-running crisis.

UNSMIL head Ghassan Salame explained that the National Forum will not have executive powers, but will offer recommendations. These will include recommendations on the date of presidential and parliamentary elections and the plan in which they will be carried out.

He previously said it will then be for the House of Representatives (HoR) and the Higher Council of State (HCS) to respond to the recommendations.
