LNA fights Tripoli armed groups, not Sarraj: Mismari

The Libyan National Army (LNA) is fighting “terrorist groups” who try to control Libya, not the UN-backed Government of the National Accord (GNA) in Tripoli, LNA Spokesperson Ahmed al-Mismari said Tuesday.

“Foreign organizations developed a plot to settle terrorists in Libya;” hence, the army is exerting efforts to foil the plan, Mismari said, adding that internationally-wanted terrorists entered Tripoli amid the war in the western region. He claimed that the GNA head Faiez al-Sarraj has lost control over decision making.

Since its arrival in Tripoli in March 2016, the GNA has relied on militia groups to control the capital.

Hence, in its clash with the LNA, pro-GNA militias mobilized in Tripoli to support Sarraj in the battle, according to Mismari.

He added that the Muslim Brotherhood and some Libyan fighting groups allied to finance the war against the army in Tripoli.

As for the LNA’s progress in the western region, he said the army reached the Ain Zara’s memorial near Tripoli and seized the armed groups’ weapons, tanks, and large amounts of ammunition.
