Livestock shipment arrives in Tripoli ahead of Ramadan

A livestock carrier carrying a mixture of sheep and pure-bred cattle arrived in Tripoli seaport on Wednesday, according to the port’s management.

The ship was carrying 441 live cattle and 4,000 sheep which the port did not identify their country of source.

On April 2, the Tripoli port received another livestock carrier, Blue Moon, carrying 600 heifers and 2,000 sheep.

Traders are in race against time to provide goods and meat in sufficient quantities for citizens in considerable prices ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, which is likely to start on May 6.

Muslims fast from dawn to dusk during the month, and it is customary that people buy many food supplies in advance.

The clashes in Tripoli also double the need for large quantities of foods, as prices have hiked since the beginning of Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar’s campaign against the capital.
