GNA, UNICEF sign agreement to protect children amid civil war

The Government of the National Accord (GNA)’s Social Affairs Ministry signed Wednesday an agreement with the UNICEF to develop child protection systems and set legislation to end violence against children.

“The ongoing armed conflict has affected approximately 1.5 million people, including more than half a million children, who live in conflict-affected areas in Tripoli and other cities in western Libya,” according to the UNICEF April report.

The Libyan National Army (LNA)’s movement towards Tripoli has pushed the country into a civil war, killing 432 people, injuring 2,069 and forcing 42,000 to flee their homes.

“Detained migrants and refugees, including women and children, are particularly vulnerable, especially those in detention centres located in the vicinity of the fighting,” the report said.
