General Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA) met with of U.S. officials during his visit to Cairo last week, an informed source told Asharq Al-Awsat.
The officials were from the Defense and State Departments and the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM).
No official statements have been released on the meeting, but the State Department told the Saudi newspaper that American officials have contacted several Libyan leaders, as well as international partners to achieve security and stability in Libya.
During his visit to Cairo, Haftar met with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi who underscored Egypt’s support of efforts to counter terrorism as well as extremist groups and militias to reinforce security and stability in Libya.
He also reiterated Egypt’s support for the role of the Libyan military establishment to “restore the pillars of legitimacy” and create an environment conducive to reaching political solutions and to implementing the constitutional milestones in order to fulfill the aspirations of the Libyan people for a decent life and a better future.
