GNA raises security alert level in Tawergha

The Government of National Accord (GNA)’s Ministry of Interior raised the security alert level to maximum in the town of Tawergha, located halfway on the coastal road linking the eastern and western parts of Libya.

The Ministry of Interior said Sunday the security measure is a part of the efforts exerted by the GNA to achieve stability in the western region, namely Tripoli.

Meanwhile, the anti-terrorism unit of the General Directorate of Central Support Department of Tajura began to conduct patrols and establish security centres to secure the entrances and exits of the capital Tripoli.

Many areas m in the western region have prepared forces to fight any attempt by the Islamic State (IS) to attack the western region, as well as to counter the Libyan National Army (LNA)’s progress in the capital.

This comes a day after the LNA engaged in heavy clashes near Salah al-Din and the Airport roads in Tripoli.

According to the LNA, the GNA’s forces retreated from their positions near the battles locations.

The clashes erupted in several areas of the capital Friday night and several GNA field leaders have been announced dead, as claimed by the LNA statement.

The statement underscored that the Tripoli airport is completely under the LNA control.
