LNA investigated Ashmay before extradition to Egypt: spox

Investigations revealed that Egyptian former commando Hesham al-Ashmawy was specialized in training terrorists on “street fighting,” the Libyan National Army (LNA) spokesperson Ahmed al-Mismari said Wednesday.

Ashmawy was extradited to the Egyptian authorities Tuesday in the presence of the Egyptian intelligence chief after carrying out investigations with the high-profile defendant to meet all legal requirement.

In a Benghazi-based press conference, Mismari said investigations also showed that terrorists in Libya have links with other terrorist organisations across countries.

Mismari added that the LNA arrested many Arab and foreign terrorists during its war on terrorism waged since 2018 in Benghazi and other Libyan regions.

Among the arrested terrorists were Mari Zoghbi, who was captured by the LNA in Derna in 2018, according to Mismari.

Zoghbi was recruited by the Turkish intelligence, the spokesperson claimed.
