2nd explosion hits Derna in two days

A terrorist attack targeted Tuesday morning a police station on the eastern coast of Derna, leaving no casualties, a source told 218TV.

The second bombing attacked Derna in two days, the explosion was carried out by a bomber who planted an explosive device at a school adjacent to the city center.

On Saturday, 18 people were injured in two car bomb explosions that hit a military unit belonging to the eastern Libyan National Army (LNA) in Derna, Libya’s eastern coastal city.

“We found people around the Bulahati military unit and there was huge black smoke in the sky. We then discovered it was car bombs,” a resident told Reuters.

In May 2018, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, the 75-year-old commander of the LNA, announced the launch of a military offensive on the city of Derna.

Thr LNA started the operation with airstrikes and shelling the city for some time, and then launched a ground offensive. The Libyan army began to mobilize more troops around Derna, in preparation for launching a large-scale military operation to “free it” from terrorist groups loyal to al-Qaeda organization and ISIS.
