Clashes break out between LNA, GNA in Asbia area

Clashes broke out Tuesday between the Government of National Accord (GNA) and Libyan National Army (LNA) at Asbia area, south of Tripoli, with the eastern army controlling a suburb in the area, sources told 218news.

In the upcoming period, the military operations in western Libya will be escalated until “terrorists” and armed groups are expelled from the region, Commander of the Air Force Operations Room of the LNA, Major General Mohammed Al Manfur, told al-Bayan Newspaper Tuesday.

Manfur said Tripoli’s battle will enter a new “unprecedented” stage, especially after the “massacre” carried out on Wednesday in Gharyan, south of Tripoli, against the LNA.

The LNA announced on Monday the launch of an air operation called “Aqibat al-Ghadr” (Treachery Consequence).

Responding to the attack on LNA’s main base of Gharyan, the LNA’s al-Watiya air force base launched Saturday airstrikes on weapon stores of armed groups affiliated to the GNA in Gharyan city, south of Tripoli, according to the base’s statement.

The LNA will “firmly respond” to the attack on Gharyan, General Commander of the LNA Khalifa Haftar said Saturday.
