Libyan MPs demand sanctions on Turkey, Qatar during meeting with UN’s Williams

Libyan parliamentarians demanded sanctions on Turkey and Qatar for sending weapons to armed groups in Libya, expressing support for the Libyan National Army (LNA) during a Saturday meeting with U.N. Deputy Special Representative for Political Affairs in Libya Stephanie T. Williams.

The meeting tackled the most recent political, economic and security developments in the country, as Williams and the U.N. Support Mission in Libya have been touring the eastern region, including Tobruk, Derna and Shahat, for eight days following the opening of the U.N. office in Benghazi recently.

During their meeting, the east-based MPs reaffirmed their support to the LNA’s operation in the western region to eliminate criminal gangs and terrorists.

The lawmakers also called on the U.N. to take an action against Ankara and Doha for violating Libya’s sovereignty and the resolutions of the Security Council on Libya’s arms embargo.
