Egypt is keen on Libya’s security, stability: Abdel Aal

Egyptian parliament speaker Ali Abdel Aal said, Monday that Libya’s security is equal to Egypt’s security as well. He affirmed in statements that no one should be interfering in Libya’s internal affairs.

Abdel Aal  added in his speech during meeting with delegation of Libyan MPs who arrived Saturday in Cairo to participate in the meeting organized by the Egyptian national committee assigned to help Libyans reach a political solution, that Egypt will do all what it can to preserve and maintain security and stability in Libya.

He stressed that both countries have a strong and historical relations.

A final joint statement issued by both if the Libyan and Egyptian MPs after their meetings in Cairo stated that, The members of the House of Representatives (HoR) will convene in the upcoming period to discuss the ways to establish a national unified government and set a roadmap for a political solution in Libya.

The MPs stressed during their visit that the Libyan crisis will be solved only by the HoR, which is the sole elected legitimate power in Libya, the statement said.

In December 2018, some Libyan officials, including the head of the High Council of State (HCS) Khaled al-Mishri, objected to the amendment made by the HoR to the referendum law and referred to it as “unconstitutional.”

The HCS explained that any amendment to the constitutional declaration requires a vote of no less than 120 MPs, while those who attended voted on the amendment did not exceed 105 members.

Commenting on that, the MPs emphasized in their statement the importance to maintain the democratic process and peaceful transfer of power in Libya through the constitutional declaration and its amendments that organizes the transitional period in the country.

A delegation of Libyan MPs arrived Saturday in Cairo to participate in the meeting organized by the Egyptian national committee assigned to help Libyans reach a political solution, which is part of Egypt’s efforts to resume negotiations in Libya.
