HoR submits files to Washington accusing GNA of funding terrorism

A delegation of the Libyan House of Representatives (HoR) submitted U.S. officials in Washington files “proving” the involvement of head of the Government of National Accord (GNA) Faiez al-Sarraj in funding armed groups and terrorists in Tripoli.

The HoR’s delegation paid a visit to Washington to meet members of the U.S. Congress and a number of officials in the administration of President Donald Trump, Talal al-Mayhoub, chairman of the HoR National Defense and Security Committee, told Al-Ittihad news website.

The visit comes within the framework of the HoR’s efforts to inform the U.S. government of the “reality” of the Libyan situation and the crimes committed by Turkey, Qatar and the Muslim Brotherhood against Libyans, Mayhoub added.

During the meeting with U.S. officials, the delegation stressed the legitimacy of the Libyan National Army to fight terrorism and armed groups and the importance of the military operation launched in early April in Tripoli to expel armed groups from Libya.

Since the beginning of the war in Tripoli, Turkey has supported the GNA against the LNA’s advance in the western region by sending weapons to armed groups affiliated to the government.

Due to Turkish interference in Libya, the LNA has halted air flights between Libya and Turkey.

Spokesperson for the LNA Ahmed al-Mismari said in late June that any Turkish citizen spotted inside the Libyan territories would be arrested immediately.

He added that these procedures come as a result of the “Turkish interference” in the Libyan affairs, as Ankara has been allegedly providing terrorists and militia with weapons during the past period, which led to prolonging the LNA’s campaign.

The HoR is based in eastern Libya and mostly supports the LNA, which is also based in the east.
