New crisis halts Sharara oilfield production

Libya’s Sharara oilfield is facing another crises after it was reported that it was forced to shut down as a result of shutting a valve on the pipeline linking it to Zawiya 49 km (30.4 miles) west of Tripoli.

The exact location of the disabled valve was not identified yet

Last month, the Fezzan Anger Movement threatened to close el-Sharara and Feel oilfields in the southern region to pressure the government into meeting the area’s basic needs.

The movement demanded the government to provide cash, fuel, and job opportunities for youth, and to establish development projects and resolve the crisis of electricity.

In the recent period, activists have called for the return of the activities of Fezzan Anger Movement due to the bad living conditions in the region and the rolling power cut.

Sharara oilfield is one of the biggest oilfields in Libya with normal capacity of 290,000 barrels per day.
