55 illegal immigrate rescued near Libyan coasts

A ship affiliated with Proactiva Open Arms Spanish NGO have rescued on Friday nearly 55 illegal immigrate were stuck on a wooden boat in the Mediterranean near the Libyan coasts.

The NGO said that the ship tried to anchor in Italy, but Minster of interior affairs Matteo Salvini refused.

Among the rescued, were 15 women, a pregnant woman and two children. Some og them had torture marks in their bodies.

Last week, it was announced that a boat carrying nearly 250 illegal immigrants crashed near Al-Khums city, killing up to155 people.

Other 134 illegal immigrants were announced rescued through an operation done by the Libyan Coast Guard.

The coast guard and port security authorities said that the fishermen were informed of the boat crash and coordinated with the specialized teams in an attempt to rescue the immigrants.

 The first group of the fishermen succeeded to rescue 82 migrants from different African and Arab countries including Eritrea, Palestine and Sudan.

By the end of the rescuing operation after the intervention of the Coast Guard, they succeeded to save 134 migrants.

Farhan Haq, deputy spokesman for Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres expressed his sorrow over the death of immigrate. He said in a statement that Libya is not a safe country for immigrants.
