Sisi, Macron discuss Libya’s latest developments

President Abdel Fattah el Sisi received a phone call from his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, on Sunday, as they discussed number of regional issues of mutual interest, notably the situation in Libya.

According to statement issued by spokesperson Bassam Rady, Sisi underscored Egypt’s position in support of the unity, stability and security of Libya and of respecting the will of the Libyan people.

Sisi also confirmed Egypt’s support for the Libyan National Army’s efforts to combat terrorism and eliminate terrorist organizations that pose a threat not only to Libya but to regional security and the security of the Mediterranean region.

President Sisi reiterated that Egypt rejects all forms of foreign interference in Libya’s internal affairs.

Macron stressed the need to resolve the current situation and settle the Libyan crisis, which threatens the security of the entire region, so as to restore stability in Libya and enable it to regain its regional and international roles.

The two Presidents agreed on the importance of intensifying joint efforts in this regard.

The phone talks also tackled issues pertinent to the strategic bilateral relations between Egypt and France.

Sisi and Macron affirmed commitment to further strengthening joint cooperation in various areas, and looked forward to continuing efforts to advance the outstanding relations between the two countries.
