Local pickles expo aims to whet Libyans’ appetite for life

Away from the armed conflict plaguing Libya for years, a senior woman in the city of Houn, southwest the country, held an exhibition of ready-made pickles and spices in an initiative to market the local products and support families.

Chef Khairia Abuzaid launched this exhibition just days before Eid al-Adha, which falls next Sunday, because the pickles and spices are often served on the Libyans’ tables.

The exhibition relied on local agricultural products, such as olives, pepper, olive oil, carrots, eggplant, onions, garlic, figs, and vineyard to promote the principle of self-sufficiency and encourage local production, which is always of high quality and free of chemicals and preservatives.

The exhibition witnessed a high turnout from local women who expressed their admiration of the idea and the displayed products.

Such individual initiatives are always welcomed because they support the local economy and Libyan productive families in securing their livelihood from various local industries.
