RFI: One conference in Libya, another in New York to solve current conflict

Radio France Internationale (RFI) has unveiled, in a report about the unrest in Libya in general and Tripoli in particular, that there will be two upcoming conferences that aim at finding a solution to the current conflict in Libya.

RFI said that western countries believe it is time the Libyan conflict has been solved through a political process as both parties to the conflict aren’t able to end it, explaining that there will be two conferences to find a solution in Libya.

It adds that the first conference will include holding a Libyan-Libyan gathering to review and amend the action plan of UN envoy Ghassan Salame that was put in place before the ongoing war had broken out.

The first conference will see invitations sent to stakeholders from Misrata and Zintan as the aim of the conference will be establishing new principles for the Skhirat-signed agreement so that in the long-term, the executive authority that is split between eastern and western regions can be reunited.

RFI explained that the second conference will be held in New York in late September this year on the sidelines the General Assembly of the UN Security Council, adding that after the division at the Security Council, western countries have become more keen on resolving the crisis.

In the meantime, France is engaged in talks with the UK and Italy on this subject, reviewing the possibility for a permanent ceasefire in Tripoli after about five months of fighting.
