US Africa Command kills 8 ISIS militants near Murzuq in southern Libya

The US Africa Command (AFRICOM) said it had conducted an airstrike targeting ISIS-Libya terrorists in the vicinity of Murzuq, in southern Libya on Thursday (September 19, 2019).

AFRICOM said it conducted this airstrike to eliminate terrorist leaders and fighters and to disrupt terrorist activity, according to General Stephen Townsend – the US Africa Command commander.

“At this time, we assess that the airstrike killed eight terrorists and that there were no civilians injured or killed as a result of this airstrike.” AFRICOM indicated.

Gen. Townsend explained that AFRICOM will not allow terrorists to use the current conflict in Libya as protection.

“Together with our Libyan partners, we will continue to deny terrorists safe haven in Libya.” He added.
