UN envoy to Libya holds significant meetings in New York

The UN envoy to Libya Ghassan Salame has held a number of meetings on the margins of the General Assembly with European and Arab officials to discuss the Libyan crisis in an attempt to find solutions and return to the political process.

Salame attended a meeting for the European Union foreign ministers on the sidelines of the General Assembly upon the invitation of Federica Mogherini, the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs; giving a briefing about the situation in Libya.

Salame met with Danish Special Envoy to the Sahel and the Maghreb and Ambassador to Libya,
Julie Elisabeth Pruzan-Jørgensen, discussing challenges facing Libya as the Danish ambassador expressed her country’s support for UNSMIL.

The UN envoy also met with Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Kuwait to discuss the latest developments in Libya and Kuwait’s contribution as member of the UNSC and concerned Arab country to the solution in Libya.

These meetings brought yet other verbal reiterations for the need to return to the political process amid a loud sound of heavy clashes on the ground.
